Program 2.

University of California, Davis
Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology
Putah Creek Nest Box Highway
Youth Internship Program

In collaboration with the Central Valley Bird Club’s Youth Scholarship Program, the Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology is offering up to two avian field internships for graduating seniors of local high schools.  The interns will be involved in assisting with the Museum’s nest cavity research program along Putah Creek, Yolo County.  The intern will assist PhD students with monitoring nest boxes of songbirds.  The student will be exposed to applied field ornithology by conducting nest surveys, monitoring chick development and assisting with bird banding. Special conditions include: the applicant must have a valid California Diver’s License AND transportation to get the student to and from the field sites along Putah Creek (vicinity of Davis), and must live centrally to Davis, California (the cities of Winters, Woodland, Sacramento, etc).  The internship will last for a period of time during the months of June and July with a commitment of 10 hours per week minimum.  The Museum will financially match the Central Valley Bird Club’s scholarship for the successful intern(s).   The applicants must apply for this opportunity through the Central Valley Bird Club. Be sure to click on the "Instructions on how to apply". The Club will be making decisions by March 31st, so applications are needed as soon as possible. All applicants must be members of the Central Valley Bird Club, so if you are not yet a member, you can easily join-see the website for details at http://www.cvbirds.org/membership.htm.

For information on this internship, please contact Irene E. Engilis (ietorres@ucdavis.edu) or Andrew Engilis, Jr. - Museum Curator at (aengilisjr@ucdavis.edu).
